This incredible cinema is celebrating film and filmmaking in all its diversity whilst bringing the community together.
Hebden Bridge Picture House in Calderdale is UK’s first ever cinema to hold the title of Cinema of Sanctuary.
By providing complimentary tickets and refreshments to people from a sanctuary-seeking background, running friendmaking schemes and organising collections of essential supplies, this cinema is doing all it can to show welcome and solidarity.
Cllr. Dr Carol Stow, chair of the Picture House Committee said:
“At a time when national and international politicians so often fail to find solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems, and when the plight of refugees and asylum seekers is so vividly brought home to us in the daily news, I am delighted that the council, Hebden Bridge Picture House and the Friends of the Picture House have worked collaboratively to welcome asylum seekers and refugees to the cinema, and prove we can take concrete, effective action at a grassroots level.”
